NSW Department of Planning & Environment

The NSW Department of Planning and Environment strives to make people’s lives better by creating great places and experiences for all.

We help to provide homes and services, build thriving communities, create jobs and ensure the responsible and sustainable use of our state’s resources.
We do this by creating plans for regions and local areas, revitalising urban areas and providing land for new homes, services and open space. We also assess important projects to ensure the need for new jobs is balanced with the needs of the community and environment and develop policies that guide planning activity for government and councils across NSW.

Local people play a vital role in our work by providing important local insights, information on community needs, and feedback on our policies and plans.
