La Trobe

Looking for an undergraduate, postgraduate or research program in planning with a difference?

What’s so special at La Trobe? We specialise in project-based learning. With smaller classes, a mentoring relationship with staff and close contact with industry, you will build your knowledge, skills and confidence to work in diverse areas of planning practice.

Real problems, real people and real solutions: Based in Bendigo, staff and students are deeply engaged with Victorian communities from metropolitan Melbourne to regional and rural Victoria. We tackle the big issues of climate change, food security, economic futures, migration and settlement across multiple geographic and political contexts. Our academic and professional staff have expertise in architecture, urban design and planning: spatial, transport, economic, environment and social/cultural. Staff and students have won numerous awards for their work.

High employability for planning graduates: Our students graduate with an extensive portfolio of real projects completed throughout their studies and as part of the Plan B Student Association.

Flexible learning environment: Most students work while studying, so the final year of the undergraduate and all of the postgraduate degree is primarily taught in blocks on Fridays and Saturdays or partially online.

The Glocal approach (local and global): We’re 1 of 2 undergraduate programs in Victoria, 1 of 3 inland planning programs nationally. While we are the only regionally-based program in southern Australia, we also maintain strong linkages globally through our overseas partnerships so students can learn in places like the USA, UK, India, Sri Lanka, the Philippines and more.
